crusade fan fiction

Crusade was the first spin-off to Babylon 5 and got canceled after its first season. Not surprisingly; the show had a lot of promise, but somehow never seemed to be able to find its feet. In theory, the characters were all very interesting - on screen (perhaps due to some casting mistakes) they failed to live up to that potential; a fact that was certainly not helped by the relatively cheap-looking special effects. Still, considering that Babylon 5's first season had more than a few bad episodes, it would have been interesting to witness Crusade finding its own formula for success if it had been allowed just a bit more time. A technomage, a telepath afraid of Corps regulations, an IPX member constantly at odds with the captain's orders would have provided enough potential for conflict for several seasons. No such luck. Well, at least there is still a certain data crystal to check out, isn't that so, Mr. Eilerson? And, of course, the DVDs.

The stories are sorted by author and are most likely a mix of gen, possibly even het, and of course slash (of various pairings). Each story is clearly labeled as to its content and rating. Title: Serving the Captain (Parts 1-4) Story Length: ~ 126 KB Series: none Rating: NC-17 Category: Slash Warnings: graphic m/m sex, unfinished WIP Pairing: Matthew Gideon / Max Eilerson, Matthew Gideon / Galen Time Frame: Season 1 Genres: Action/Adventure, BDSM/Kink, PWP Recommended: 23 May 2000 Summary: Gideon is tired of fighting his attraction to Eilerson and finds in the xeno-archeologist a willing partner for a little bit of 'fun and games' in bed - much to Galen's mistrust. Review: Penemuel's story certainly has much promise, although I am afraid that she intended to lead this into a direction I am not very comfortable with. Idealistically speaking, Gideon/Eilerson is my OTP, and sex with Galen freaks me out. I can easily see Eilerson hiding a need for being dominated underneath his cynical façade and hoped to see more of it in this story's later chapters. Unfortunately, Penemuel hasn't updated "Serving the Captain" since 2000, and I have to assume that she has abandoned this story. Which is a shame, really.

Rating: NC-17 Category: Slash Warnings: none Pairing: Max Eilerson / John Matheson, Matthew Gideon / Galen Time Frame: Season 1 Genres: Angst, PWP Recommended: 17 Aug 2000 Summary: This time it is John Matheson who opens his mind to his new lover, showing Max his past and things he'd rather forget.

Rating: NC-17 Category: Slash Warnings: none Pairing: Max Eilerson / John Matheson, Matthew Gideon / Galen Time Frame: Season 1 Genres: Angst, Established Relationship Recommended: 06 Apr 2006 Summary: Sometimes love must be defended.

Review: As much as prefer Gideon/Eilerson slash, I have to admit that this trilogy's premise makes sense. Matheson is alone by necessity - he is a telepath and as such the rest of the crew are suspicious towards him and the Corps he represents. Eilerson is just as alone due to his abrasive personality. Is it too much of a stretch to imagine those two loners finding each other? I don't think so. The Lab Rat's style could be better, her characters could be a bit less emotional - still, I wouldn't mind a fourth chapter.
