mortal kombat: the movie fan fiction

Mortal Kombat isn't a good movie, not by any definition, and the following movies and the series are even worse. Since I'd already seen parts of the games it was based on, "Street Fighter II" and "Mortal Kombat", I was very aware of this. Why, then, did I actually watch it? I blame it all on Nix and Rimau whose stories made me want to see Johnny and Rayden interact and finally put a face to the name of Johnny Cage. There is just something about his character that makes him vastly more interesting than the movie's conventional hero, Liu Kang. When Mortal Kombat was shown, I was at my parents' - I closed my door and muted the sound so that my mother wouldn't ask which movie I was watching. Isn't that pathetic? I'm just glad that Christopher Lambert didn't star in any of the other projects, or I would have felt compelled to do more than zap through for a few seconds. The things you do because of a good story...

The main pairing on this page is
Johnny Cage / Rayden.

Title: Claiming Story Length: ~ 16 KB
Series: none Rating: NC-17
Category: Slash Warnings: none
Pairing: Johnny Cage / Rayden Time Frame: Post-Movie 1
Genres: PWP Recommended: 23 May 2000
Summary: Rayden waits for Johnny, Lu Kang and Sonya to return from Outworld.
Review: Nix neatly manages to turn around the ending of the movie in which Johnny and Sonya ended up together and splits them up in a couple of sentences to bring Rayden and Johnny together. It's short tag to the movie, it's pretty much about the sex, it's nothing out of the ordinary - and yet it still has something that makes it a joy to read. Enjoy.

Rimau

livejournal: ljsua_lay
Title: You Win Some offsite Story Length: ~ 30 KB
Series: none Rating: R
Category: Slash Warnings: none
Pairing: Johnny Cage / Rayden Time Frame: Post-Movie 1
Genres: Character Study, PWP Recommended: 23 May 2000
Summary: What did the victory of the Kombat cost?
Review: Rimau concentrates on Johnny after the movie; a Johnny that feels only emptiness and anger inside and has no idea how to return to his old life or what changes to make to start a new one. Confronting Rayden helps him deal with his issues, but Rayden has also tensions to work out and, considering he is the God of Thunder and Lightning, it is not surprising that that happens in the middle of a storm. Rimau's story is more substantial than Nix's one but also ends far too soon as no real resolution has been achieved. A sequel would be nice.
