dream world

Feels like drowning in a dark, wild lake
seemingly endless, its borders lost in mist.
Everyone tells me that I should know it,
that I've been there before,
but everything seems strange and menacing
the black waters containing a shadow too dark to see,
a danger too great to observe
and I retreat from that place
full of darkness and despair
reaching up for the stars,
white, shining little spots
in the dark ripples of the black surface of the water,
and so I float upwards
in a gentle little breeze
filling the empty, peaceful space
between sky and earth
and, touching them,
I find refuge and peace
for a little while;
but the white, fluffy clouds under me
cannot block out the view entirely
down to the lake
waiting for me
despassionatley, patiently
as it knows that I have to return one day,
have to go down again
to stand on its shore to face the danger
hidden in its depths,
the monster looming there
waiting for me
- oh, right it is -
but sometimes I simply want to stay among the stars,
warmed by their lights
forever
closing my eyes
and denying reality
as their world is the only one
offering oblivion for some stolen hours.
